Frequently Asked Questions
Why should parents choose a Jewish day school education for their children?
Parents who are committed to providing their children with the best possible education understand that classes with low student-teacher ratios taught by exceptional teachers in a warm, caring environment are the key to building a strong educational foundation. By integrating Jewish culture and values into a strong academic program, students become comfortable with the rich customs and traditions of their heritage while gaining the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the secular world. The Jewish day school experience helps students "see the world through Jewish eyes" as they develop personal integrity, compassion for others (Gimelut Chasadim), and a responsibility for taking care of our world (Tikkun Olam).
PJDS offers the perfect balance of an outstanding exceptional education coupled with an exceptional Jewish experience (which includes Hebrew and Judaic studies) in a warm, "hamisha" environment.
What are the strengths of Pardes Jewish Day School?
Pardes Jewish Day School is dedicated to fostering a life-long love of learning. To this end, PJDS provides a safe and nurturing environment where varying learning styles are understood and respected. Our talented faculty encourages creativity and critical thinking, and motivates students to reach their innate potential as they take on academic challenges at their own levels. We are able to provide an environment that fosters positive learning experiences with academic standards that exceed Arizona state guidelines. And, of course, we do it all while integrating Jewish culture and values and building positive Jewish identities.
How will a Jewish day school experience affect our child's ability to function in the diverse secular community?
Children in a Jewish day school function exceptionally well in the secular community because they have a healthy sense of their own identity. As caring, understanding individuals, they are comfortable forming new relationships in our multi-ethnic American society. Jewish day schools give children a Jewish value base from which they can make meaningful contributions to our American culture.
PJDS is proud that we graduate students who transition beautifully into the secular world.
They are comfortable with who they are and with their place in American society.
Our family may be more/less observant than others. Will our children fit in?
The PJDS student body reflects the full spectrum of the Jewish community, with families practicing Judaism in many ways. Pardes Jewish Day School is a warm and welcoming place where Jewish children and parents from all backgrounds form lasting friendships (K'lal Israel). The focus is on developing knowledge of Judaism and pride in our heritage rather than changing anyone's style. The fundamental Torah lesson of respect for others (Kavod) and appreciating differences is taught and modeled here.

What about art, music, physical education, and technology?
PJDS offers a wide variety of specialty classes taught by highly experienced specialists. Our offerings include art, music, physical education, technology, and drama (at the Middle School level). Instrumental music instruction is introduced in the 3rd grade and a special music ensemble class is offered in the Middle School. We have a superb computer lab in addition to having computers in each classroom. When many schools are cutting funds for music and art education, we are proud to offer these programs and committed to keeping them as integral parts of the Pardes Jewish Day School experience.
We are an average family. Can we afford the cost of a private education?
Every Jewish child deserves a Jewish education. Understanding that not every family is able to afford the cost of a quality Jewish day school education, an innovative and equitable scholarship program has been established. The Jewish Community Day School Scholarship Fund (STO) provides tuition assistance to children who would otherwise be unable to afford a Jewish educational experience. Contact our Admissions Director, Laurence Harris (480-991-9141, Ext. 503), for a confidential appointment to discuss your family's needs.
