Students Shine in Lower School Fall Musicals

Pardes Jewish Day School recognizes the many benefits of a performing arts program for students at all grade levels. This year the School is thrilled to announce the addition of Lower School theatrical productions in addition to the longstanding Middle School Spring Play and all-school Chanukah Show. Under the direction of new Performing Arts Director Jennifer Adams, parents enjoyed a kindergarten to second fall production as well as a third and fourth grade show.

As to be expected, Yee Haw and It’s a Hit weren’t your typical elementary school musicals. On October 29th , Kindergarten, first and second graders engaged in a rollicking western adventure during their cowboy-themed production of Yee-Haw. The November 6th  third and fourth grade production of It’s a Hit  was a grand slam of delightfully choreographed baseball themed songs and dialogue that emphasized teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Asked how she selected the shows, Adams responded “I looked for shows with an opportunity to engage every student in a way that promoted teamwork.”  On that account, Adams couldn’t have chosen better. “In the process,” Adams continued, “something magical happened. Students who insisted the productions weren’t ‘their thing’, came out of their shell.  They learned that they have capabilities beyond what they thought they had.”

Recounting her favorite moment of the night, Adams didn’t hesitate. “During the last three rehearsals, one of the students simply couldn’t get their lines out, no matter how hard they tried. And at the performance, that student truly became a star. They delivered their part to perfection!”

After fabulous fall productions, the Pardes community is excited to see the spring Lower School productions later this year.
