Kindergarten and First Grade Students Share Writing Advice

November 15th is National “I Love to Write” Day. In honor of this day, several kindergarten and first grade students shared their tips on how to be a good writer. Whether tips on how to develop a story idea to spelling a difficult word, these students have great advice for new writers.

Pardes kindergarten and first grade students are engaged in Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop and Wilson Fundations®, which create a balanced literacy curriculum that helps grow avid and skilled writers, readers and inquirers. It includes components such as phonics, shared reading, shared writing, interactive writing, read aloud with accountable talk, and small group, in addition to mini lessons addressing foundational skills. Students explore both fiction and non-fiction units of study and are exposed to the writing process from drafting through publication.
