Sheila Schwartz is a pioneering force in Jewish education in Phoenix. Born and raised in Williamsburg, New York, she moved to Phoenix in 1959, where she married her husband, Jess Schwartz, and raised their three children, all of whom attended local Jewish day schools. Through her children’s education, Sheila’s lifelong commitment to Jewish community schools took root.
In honor of her late husband, Sheila later made the lead gift to establish the Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School, expanding access to Jewish education in Phoenix. Today, that campus is home to Pardes Jewish Day School, continuing the legacy she helped build.
Sheila’s leadership and generosity extend far beyond a single institution. She has been a steadfast supporter of numerous Jewish and civic organizations locally and nationally, including Technion, the Weizmann Institute, PEJE, AIPAC, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Jewish National Fund. She also played a unique role in strengthening Jewish community life by organizing Jewish singles’ dances that led to many lasting relationships.
Through her vision, generosity, and dedication, Sheila has strengthened Jewish life in Phoenix for decades, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire generations.
