Meet Director of Learning Resources Deborah Graham

Q: Why did you choose to work at Pardes Jewish Day School?

A: I had been working at the Austin Jewish Academy in Austin, TX. I reached out to Pardes as soon as I relocated back to AZ. I was fortunate enough to have had perfect timing! I love what I do and I love that I get to continue what I was doing back home in AZ!

Q: What motivated you to become a teacher or to work in education?

A: I was a pre school teacher’s aide almost the entire time I was in college for my undergraduate degree. After I graduated I tried to leave and go to the corporate world, but I soon realized my heart belonged to education.

Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching or working in education?

A: Well, it definitely keeps you on your toes! However, for me, it is the opportunity to work really hard to help someone achieve their goals and see the journey they take along the way.

Q: What is the most important life lesson you want your students to learn in your class(es)?

A: Advocate for yourself no matter what!

Q: How do you keep current with the subject areas you cover?

A: Annual conferences, professional development courses, collaborations, and I try to research and publish something annually.

Q: What was your favorite book as a child?

A: I had tons…I loved to spend my weekdays at the library 6 blocks from my house…if I had to choose I would say, Ms. Nelson is Missing.

Q: What is your favorite book as an adult?

A: The Great Gatsby

Q: What are some of your interests/hobbies?

A: Mt. biking, hiking, running, swimming….pretty much anything outdoors.

Q: What are you most looking forward to this school year?

A: Getting to know everyone at Pardes and starting a new journey with the students.
